Must-have accessories customers will be on the lookout for this Spring

By Lucy Mazzucco

Since the last few years have brought forth an array of unique trends, small business owners may be wondering what their customers will be on the lookout for this spring.

While many of us are still anticipating (at least) one final snowstorm to end off the Canadian winter season, the rest of us are hopeful enough to start thinking about how we’re going to fill our spring wardrobes. With business owners getting ready to mark down their winter wear and setting up their spring displays, we’ve rounded up the top trends to inspire them to put orders in or show off what they’ve already got.

If the last few years taught us anything, it’s that matching outfits aren’t as tacky as they once were. While they definitely had their moment in the ‘90s and even in the mid 2000s, this trend is back, but with a twist. Many collections that walked the runway recently proved that items like oversized blazers in various colours are still being paired with matching bottoms.

So, for customers who enjoy wearing monochromatic looks to the workplace and beyond, now is the time to show off how they can pull off these looks with colourful, oversized blazers.

Pencil Skirts

Gone are the days where pencil skirts were only worn to the office. A recent Vogue article noted that various collections from high-end brands like Saint Laurent that walked the runway featured a variety of different pencil skirts.

From bold colours to neutral tones, pleather, leather, and other textured fabrics, it’s safe to say that shoppers will be on the lookout for ways they can play up the classic pencil skirt this spring.

For some time, longer jackets seemed to take a backseat. Last year, we saw petticoats slowly make a comeback and this year, we’re going to be seeing a lot more trench coats. Due to their versatility and comfortability, this is one fashion staple many people won’t want to skip out on this season.

Polo Shirts

Yes, you read that right. Although many of us thought we said goodbye to this trend in 2010, runways are giving us major flashbacks to the Laguna Beach days with collared shirts.

The same Vogue article noted that brands such as Gucci and Mango have released shirts with collars in their collections along with various other designers who showed them off during fashion weeks.

Looks like the athletic trend is making a comeback after all, but with a preppy feel.

Statement Belts

This trend, reminiscent of the 2010s, is also making a return this spring. While the type of belt may not be exactly the same as the large buckle disasters everyone once wore over, well, everything, they are out to make the same statement.

The great thing about this remerging trend is that business owners who already have belts in stock can play around with ways to show them off. Whether it’s on mannequins, social media, or even encouraging employees to make a statement with their belts, it’s a great way to encourage customers to style their outfits.

So, whether you are putting orders in or simply showing off what you already have, let these nostalgic elements of the past that are making their way back into the latest fashion trends inspire your outfits so you can encourage your customers to get creative this spring.
