Many customers are longing for a getaway, even if it’s just for a weekend. Since short trips usually don’t come with much packing and preparation, they’ll most likely be on the lookout for items that can be tossed into a travel bag without having to overthink anything.

Windbreakers

Although many of us thought this trend had come and gone, they have made quite the appearance in recent months, with celebrities and fashion icons rocking them in various ways. Whether they’re worn with jeans, leggings, over a hoodie or paired with stylish running shoes, these pieces are great for keeping warm and dry when the weather is unpredictable.

Plus, it’s a trendy addition to an outfit that gives an effortless look while on vacation. For this reason, small business owners can use the fact that they’re both versatile and fashionable as selling points to customers.

Insta-Worthy Sunnies

While sunglasses should be a staple in everyone’s daily routines for eye protection, it can be fun to pick up an extra trendy pair to make a debut in photos during a weekend getaway.

In recent years, we saw a lot of nostalgic elements of the past reflected in the latest trends, including small rectangular lenses and colourful frameless glasses reminiscent of the ‘90s. This year, while we’re still seeing a lot of nostalgic influences and retro styles, the oversized look, particularly the cat eye shape, has been making appearances on celebrities as well as on social media.

Regardless of which pair customers decide to pick up for their next getaway, the important thing is that they’ve got UVA/UVB protection, which is something many consumers prioritize when shopping for sunglasses.

Foldable Tote Bags

The great thing about tossing one of these in a travel bag is that it can come in handy for everything. Whether that’s carrying a jacket, using it for dirty laundry or utilizing it to hold items you purchase on vacation, the possibilities for these are truly endless. Plus, if they’re foldable, they take up next to no room in a bag or small suitcase.

Small business owners with these in stock can use this as an opportunity to upsell during checkout online or by the cash register. You’d be surprised how many customers might go for them as an impulse purchase, particularly if they’re unique and stylish.

Dainty Bling

While the jewelry trends are a little broad this year, dainty jewelry is still a staple and can be used to accessorize, regardless of whether someone is dressing up or down. Having a couple of necklaces or rings that can be layered and worn all weekend without taking them off can be a great way to elevate any outfit.

Small business owners who carry waterproof jewelry may want to point this out as well, in case customers plan on spending time in an indoor pool or hot tub.

It’s important to remember that on weekend getaways, many people want to avoid overpacking. Having a section in your shop (either in-store or online) that recommends one or all these items, can be a great way to help customers make their selections in a more convenient way.
